Hydrosols

Hydrosols, true Aromatherapy! Also known as floral waters, hydroflorates, flower waters or distillates, hydrosols are produced from steam-distilling plant materials. Hydrosols have similar properties to essential oils but are much less concentrated, making superb skin conditioners and balancers, adding crucial hydration.

LAVENDER - This is one of the more relaxing and balancing hydrosols from our collection of flower waters. It is ideal for oily and combination skin, and is an excellent coolant for minor burns, rashes, and hot sores. Mentally refreshing and marvelous on the emotions.

NEROLI - Neroli hydrosol is mildly astringent and may be the hydrosol of choice for oily skin. It is superb for acne skin. Neroli hydrosol is a good toner and balancer for combination skin, balancing both the oily and drier areas. In the dry areas it smooths and polishes skin without excessive tightening and in the oily areas, it gently clears any oily debris that might be lurking under the surface.

ROSE - It is a wonderful toner for all skin types, an aphrodisiac with embedded roots dating back thousands of years. Rosewater stimulates the skin, heightening the blood flow. Rosewater controls and balances sebum production, making it useful for both dry and oily skin. It can balance and restore the skin's pH and helps add hydration. Its anti-bacterial properties help fight acne giving troubled skin a gentle, rather than a harsh treatment. It is an excellent anti-wrinkle treatment.

WITCH HAZEL - Witch Hazel hydrosol is the most anti-oxidant of the hydrosols and recommended for psoriasis, eczema, cracked or blistered skin, and aging skin. Soothing and anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. A wonderful toner for acneic skin as well as a free radical scavenger recommended for anti-aging skin treatments.

ALOE VERA - (Aloe barbadensis) Origin: Leaf. Aloe Vera has been used for centuries for its extraordinary healing, carrier, soothing, moisturizing properties and more. The efficacy of the aloe vera is enhanced by increasing the polysaccharide content within a range of 50,000 to 200,000 Daltons. Only through this patented manufacturing process can the Aloe retain it's biological activity and not simply the 'chemistry' of Aloe vera.

ALPHA LIPOIC ACID - (Thioctic acid) Origin: Probiotic Fermentation/Vegetarian. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a powerful anti-oxidant that promotes healthy cell function, boosts skin's radiance, and minimizes enlarged pores and surface imperfections.

It is the body's natural lubricant and part of the natural moisturizing factor (NMF) or ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. Face Treatment and Treatment Serums are concentrated blends of results-oriented state of the art ingredients. Serums are more beneficial when layered. Organic Meadowfoam Seed Oil is a penetrating oil that will not clog pores. Leaves a nice soft feel with deeply nourished, rejuvenated, and moisturized skin. Vitamin K reduces under-eye discoloration and puffiness by stimulating stale lymph and circulation. MSM strengthens connective tissue to help firm. Selected botanical extracts are astringent, soothing, puff-reducing, calming, anti-oxidant, antibacterial, and firming.

DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol) is normally found in the human brain and is naturally derived from cold water ocean fish. DMAE in skin care products shows remarkable effects when applied topically to skin, resulting in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. DMAE is an amazing nutrient that extends the life of cells, inhibits the cross linking of proteins, which gives the skin a tone and firm appearance. MSM is anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial. Matrixyl 3000 is a peptide compound formed when two or more amino acids are joined together. Matrixyl, or these amino acids, function in skin care products as a messenger, allowing the epidermis and dermis to more efficiently communicate. As we age, the communication between these two layers of our skin diminishes, resulting in decreased collagen production and and accumulation of degraded elastin fibers. Thy physical result of this poor communication is skin that appears aged and wrinkled. Clinical testing of the raw material was preformed using a double blind, placebo controlled study with 3% Matrixyl cream for 6 months. The surface area of the deep wrinkles decreased by 68% and in some cases by as much as 90%. The density of the main furrows decreased by 47%. The area of the moderate wrinkles decreased by 51%. The mean area of the main wrinkle showed a 22% decrease. Vitalize every single skin cell. In a 12-week double-blind, placebo-controlled, split-face, left-right randomized clinical study of 93 Caucasian women aged 35�55, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 provided significant improvement versus placebo control for reduction in wrinkles/fine lines by both qualitative technical and expert grader image analysis.

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid is a key for maintaining water substances in human skin. Normally over time because of aging, natural HA can be decreased in the skin. The skins ability to maintain moisture is weakened, and gives the appearance of being dry and rough. When HA is applied back to the skin, it penetrates the dermis, combines with water, and promotes micro circulation and nutrient absorption. It forms an air permeable layer, to keep the skin moist and smooth.

MSM
Organic Sulfur is a non-poisonous and non-odorous sulfur extracted from plants. In the human body, organic sulfur is mostly found in the bones, sinew, nails, hair and connective tissue. Skin wrinkles, discoloration and cornification of finger/toe nails are the results of sulfur deficiency. MSM is a natural substance found in food and in the human body. It is also a metabolite of DMSO and is believed thereby to be one of the reasons DMSO is an effective pain remedy. MSM is a source of sulfur, a mineral element critical to the normal function and structure of the human body. Sulfur is a raw material for the protein and connective tissue (especially proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans such as hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate) that make up our body mass, for enzymes that conduct countless chemical reactions, and for powerful natural compounds (such as glutathione) that protect against toxicity and harmful free radicals. MSM consists chemically of 2 hydrocarbon units attached to a unit with one sulfur and two oxygen atoms. It has a molecular weight of 94 and is therefore a small molecule able to enter easily into many compartments of the human body. Toxicity studies show that MSM has extremely low toxicity comparing favorably to the toxicity of water. Dr. Stanley W. Jacob, Director of the DMSO Clinic and Professor of Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University, has conducted clinical studies on MSM and used it with his patients for over 20 years. He has documented his findings in The Miracle of MSM (Putnam 1999). He lists as MSMs most significant actions: 1) Pain control (analgesic), 2) Reduces inflammation, 3) Passes through cellular membranes of the body, including the skin, 4) Dilates blood vessels and increases blood flow, 5) Blocks the action of cholinesterase, thereby helping restore normal bowel activity, 6) Reduces muscle spasm, 7) Alters the cross-linking process in collagen, thereby reducing scar tissue, 8) Antiparasitic (particularly against giardia), and 9) Immune normalizing effects, as observed in some autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and scleroderma. Dr. Jacob lists as the most frequent applications of MSM: 1) Degenerative wear-and-tear arthritis, 2) Rheumatoid arthritis, 3) Chronic back pain, 4) Chronic headaches, 5) Muscle pain, 6) Fibromyalgia, 7) Tendinitis and bursitis, 8) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, 9) TMJ problems, 10) Post-traumatic pain and inflammation, and 11) Heartburn. Normal dosages for MSM range from 2 to 8 grams daily, but larger amounts may be needed in some situations. In some cases loosening of the stools may occur, which may be remedied by taking smaller amounts spread out over the course of the day or by reducing the dosage.

Gotu Kola
Hydrocotyl (Centella Asiatica / gotu kola) has been used to successfully treat ulcers for several years and this has prompted research of the action of this plant extract. In total, 54 human genes are up-regulated by hydrocotyl and most have cell proliferation and regenerative functions. It stimulates AF and VEGF and TGF which cause the repair of the microvascular system and therefore extracts from hydrocotyl are used to treat bleeding ulcers. It stimulates the production of type I and type III collagen. In guinea pig punch wounds, applications of 0.2% hydrocotyl produced a 57% increase in skin tensile strength, by increasing collagen content and better epithelization, as compared to control groups. Hydrocotyl is a very powerful antioxidant and stimulates the body to manufacture catalase, a powerful anti-aging antioxidant. Hydrocotyl is a powerful skin regenerative agent and works very well in conjunction with retinoic acid, calcium, zinc and other agents of skin repair and rejuvenation.

Lipids
Cell walls are made of lecithin and essential fatty acids. As explained in the section on anti-aging, free radicals attack the walls of cells, creating holes, and other free radicals begin to damage cellular DNA. This leads to the progression of dysfunctional cells and skin damage. When lecithin and essential fatty acids are added to the skin, cell repair begins immediately. Subsequently cells retain water and begin to function in a more productive and protective manner. Essential fatty acids further assist in re-establishing the skin's lipid barrier function. Each of these processes is involved in healing and repair and without adequate zinc levels, the process of skin rejuvenation is slow or simply does not happen. Eye Cream: I want a 40 gallon drum!!!!! After just a week, my eye area looks much more hydrated, firm and smooth, the lines are just about gone! The dark circles have lightened just a bit, but those things are bad so I know it will be a while of consistent use before I see more difference there. I had stopped wearing eyeshadows because of the ummm 'crepey' lids. This is so much improved in just one week, I can't believe it, give it another month or so and I'll be on here begging you eyeshadow savvy ladies for tips!
